The Best Fitness Tool and How To Use It!

I have the coolest fitness tool I have ever had, which is the Fitbit. I am going to give a Fitbit tutorial so that you all can join me in getting fit and STAYING fit!!! I got the Fitbit as a gift and it has been wonderful! My original idea of it was I thought it just counted your steps, but it does SO MUCH MORE!

Order your Fitbit here and follow the steps below!

Part 1: Setting up

When you open your Fitbit, there will be your Fitbit, the charger, and the link for setting up your profile (the link will tell you where to download the app).

Step 1: Charge your Fitbit! Use the charger to either plug it in to a computer USB or use a phone charger adaptor to plug in the USB into the wall.

Step 2: After your Fitbit has some charge, download the Fitbit app from your app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) or download it to your computer (Windows Store or fitbit.com/app).

Step 3: Set up your profile. This includes your login and Fitbit settings.

Step 4: Start setting your goals! Read Part 2!!!

Part 2: Setting Your Goals

Setting Steps Goal

Step 1: Your Fitbit will automatically be set on 10,000 steps per day. I suggest leaving it at that, but you can change it by clicking on the steps at the top of your app screen.

Step 2: Click the settings gear at the top right corner.

Step 3: Click either steps, distance, calories, active minutes, or hourly activity goals to edit your personal daily goals.

Steps- the number of steps you make in a day

Distance- the distance you walk in a day

Calories- the number of calories you burn in a day

Active Minutes- the number of minutes your are active in a day

Hourly Activity- the hours you are most active each day (You will be expected to make 250 steps hour within these active hours.)

Tracking Exercise

Step 1: Click “track exercise”.

Step 2: Click the settings gear at top right corner of screen

Step 3: Click any of the different settings to adjust (weekly exercise goals or auto recognize exercises-click the exercises)

Weekly Exercise Goal- How many days per week do you want to exercise?

Auto Recognize Exercises- How long do you want to do each exercise before the Fitbit can recognize it and automatically track it for you?

Sleep Goals

Step 1- Click the sleep link from the home screen.

Step 2- Click the settings gear at the top right corner of the screen.

Step 3- Set your sleep goal, your sleep schedule, and reminders if you like!

Weight Loss Goal

Step 1- Click the weight tracker from the home screen.

Step 2- Click the settings gear at the top right corner.

Step 3- Go through and edit your weight tracking settings (your goal action- lose, gain, maintain; goal weight; start date; starting weight; goal body fat percentage)

Daily Water Intake

Step 1- Click the water bottle on the home screen.

Step 2- Click the settings gear at the top right corner.

Step 3- Edit the settings for the amount of water you want drink each day and the unit of measurement (I chose ounces.)

Food Intake

Step 1- Click the food link at the bottom of the home screen.

Step 2- Click the food settings gear.

Step 3- Click and edit your food plan goal.

Daily Calorie Deficit- the number of calories you burn minus the calories you eat (Harder Plan- 1,000 calorie deficit which means if you eat 1,200 calories in a day, you need to burn 2,200 calories that same day.)

Part 3: Tracking Your Fitness

Exercise

Your exercise will be tracked automatically unless you do not exercise more than your set recognition time. If you do aerobics longer than your set time, your Fitbit will automatically recognize it and track it!

If you need to manually add an exercise, click the exercise link and click the little stop watch at the top right corner of the screen next to the settings gear. Add your exercise here.

If you are going for a walk or run, you can automatically track your walk by clicking the same stop watch next to the settings, click tracking, then click the play button. Take your app (device) with you and it will track and map out your walk or run and add it to your stats!!!

Sleep

Sleep with your Fitbit on and it will automatically track your sleep. It will detect when you went to sleep, when you woke up, and how many times you were restless or briefly woke up!!

Weight

I suggest getting on the scale every day. When there is a change in your weight, add it to your stats by clicking on the weight link on the home screen and then clicking the plus sign at the top right corner of the screen next to the settings gear. Put in your updated weight and the app will keep a chart of your weight changes and how close you are to your goal!!!

Water

Click the water link on the home screen and click either the glass, bottle, or large bottle depending on how much you drank to track your water intake!!

Food

When you click the food link on the home screen, you can either add your food by scanning the barcode of what you ate, just add the total number of calories, or type in what you ate to search for it. When you search, you can find that item and brand and it will automatically add the calories. Scanning the barcode is super easy! So is adding the total calories for that meal. But if you are out eating somewhere else, searching will help. You can find the meal items and save them to your stats!!! Your calorie count will be tracked and compared to your calories burned. If you eat more than you meal plan deficit, then you are over budget. If you eat below the meal plan deficit, then you are under budget. It you eat right within your meal plan deficit, then you are in the zone!!! Try to go a whole week in the zone or under budget!!!

Part 4: Friends and Challenges

You can click the Friends tab at the bottom of the home screen and find friends that also have fitbits! You can find them through facebook, your contacts, or by requesting using their email. Once you have friends added, you can challenge each other, cheer for each other, compare weekly steps, and COMPETE!!!

Challenges

Under the challenges tab, you can complete steps challenges or compete with friends to race towards to most steps in a day. The challenges can be completed individually or with friends. The best part of being active and staying fit is having someone to do it with you!!!

Don’t forget to order your Fitbit and get started TODAY!!! Sign up below and add my email to your Fitbit to request me as your Fitbit Friend!!!!
